Today we visited perhaps the “richest” part of lake Kerkini at this time (the area near the mouth of the river) and the observations were excellent. Indicatively, the almost 2,200 White pelicans, the 39 Purple herons, more than 1,100 Glossy ibis, 104 Spoonbills, about 380 Flamingos, 114 Greylag geese, 2 adult Sea eagles, 3 Lesser spotted eagles, 9 Marsh harriers and 1 adult Peregrine falcon. Almost 215 Black-winged stilts, 381 Avocets, 175 Lapwings, 150 Ruffs, 210 Black-tailed godwits, 7 Curlews and more than 800 Spotted redshanks in the mud and yellow water lilies. All this from an observation point near the mouth of the river and the delta area.
