Red-backed shrike at lake Kerkini.

The Red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio) often sits on a branch waiting to locate a beetle or grasshopper (as in the photo) and with a fast sudden attack captures its prey. Sometimes it stores the prey by nailing it to thorns or other sharp objects. Now they are getting ready for the migratory trip to the Africa!
